Post- Impressionist Art

For this particular project I have chosen to give a presentation on Post- Impressionist Art
It started in the late 1800's and France is considered its birthplace. The artists used vivid colors, thick application of paint, distinctive brush strokes, and real-life subject matter, but they were more inclined to emphasize geometric forms, to distort form for expressive effect, and to use unnatural or arbitrary color. This art form gave birth to Pointilism, symbolism amongst many others.

Artist in Focus- Vincent van Gogh
Born- 1853
Died at the age of 37, committed suicide.
2000 Artworks, including 900 paintings, special focus on self portraits and landscapes.

Elements of Design
Lines- curvy wavy lines to show depth and realism
Texture- rough brush stroke, which symbolizes energy
Color- bold, bright and intensely deep colors
Value- the tone varies in each individual painting, some have light tone, others have a dark tone.

Principles of Design
Unity- oblique lines, rough brush strokes, produce aggressive and dynamic actions
Repetition- Variations are displayed by changing the sizes of the shapes
Contrast- usage of bold and bright colors to contrast the main subject of the art with its surroundings, shading techniques also used.

As the title suggests this is the first blog I have ever created and the funny thing is that my graphic design proff had to literally arm twist most of my classmates into making a blog haha. Since creating this blog was part of my curriculum I guess I will be updating it frequently enough..So
